Phishing and other suspicious emails

What is suspicious email activity?

Phishing refers to an email that attempts to fraudulently acquire personal information from you, such as your bank account numbers, passwords and credit card numbers. On the surface, the email may appear to be from a legitimate company or individual, but it’s not.

It’s important to be sure that all emails you receive from Canva, are actually from Canva. This is critical when it comes to protecting yourself from phishing and other threats to your sensitive information.

Never send credit card information, account passwords, or extensive personal information in an email unless you’re sure that the recipient is who they claim to be.

Tips to help identify suspicious email activity

  • Canva will never ask for your personal information over email. This includes:
    • Payment information (credit card number, debit card number, etc)
    • Account password
    • Personal identification numbers (Social Security number, tax identification number etc)
  • Canva will never request payments via a third party or promise a cash prize over email.
  • Canva will never ask you to download anything from our emails.

What if I get a suspicious email?

Spammers and phishers usually can’t get any information from you unless you give it to them.

First things first: Stop before you click. Do not respond to the suspicious email. Do not click any links, or download any attachments in the email. Do not provide any personal information if requested.

Then, we recommend you follow these steps:

  1. Forward the entire email to [email protected]. Please don’t forward the email as an attachment. You can add a note or a question, but don’t alter the subject or content of the email.

We may pass on a collection of all suspicious email reports we receive to relevant authorities for investigation.

  1. Delete the suspicious email from your inbox.
  2. If you are using a web-based email address, such as Gmail or Yahoo, activate the junk or spam email preferences and report these phishing or scam emails to your provider (e.g. Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo)
  3. Install or update antivirus and malware scanners on your computer.

What if I replied, clicked a link, or downloaded something from the email?

If you replied to the email, downloaded any attachments, or provided any personal details, we recommend following these steps as soon as possible:

  1. Change your Canva password.
  2. Change your password on any other sites where you use the same password.
  3. If you believe your financial details have been compromised, contact your bank.

Your security is always our top priority. So please always email us with anything you’re unsure of.
