Working with text (iPhone)

Layouts on the Canva app come with great font pairings and beautiful typesetting. There are a number of ways to add and style your text.

Styling text


To change the font:

  1. Tap on the text you’d like to change the font of. This will reveal controls below the design.
  2. Click on the font selector on the upper left side of the controls.
  3. Scroll through the options and tap on the font you’d like to apply.
  4. Changes will apply immediately on your design.
  5. Click Done to save.

To change the font color:

  1. Tap on the text you’d like to change the color of.
  2. Click the square color picker on the upper right side of the controls.
  3. Choose a color from the offered default selection. You can also add a custom color by clicking the + button next to the current color in use. Tap on the color you’d like.
  4. Changes will apply immediately on your design.
  5. Click Done to save.

To change the font size:

  1. Tap on the text you’d like to change the size of.
  2. Click the size selector on the upper right side of the controls next to the color picker.
  3. Drag the anchor across to the left to decrease its size and right to increase its size. You can also click on the number to type in a custom size.
  4. Changes will apply immediately on your design.
  5. Click Done to save.

To change the alignment:

  1. Tap on the text you’d like to adjust the alignment of.
  2. Click the alignment button just below the font selector. This will automatically change to right, left, and center align.
  3. Keep clicking on the button until you get the right alignment.

To add font emphasis:

  1. Tap on the text you’d like to add emphasis to.
  2. Click the B button for bold, I for italics, AA for capital letters.

note: There are some fonts that cannot be emphasized. Alternatively, you can choose another font from our selection.

To adjust text spacing:

  1. Tap on the text you’d like to adjust the spacing of.
  2. Click Spacing directly below the size selector.
  3. Drag the anchors across to the left to decrease and right to increase both height and spacing.
  4. Changes will apply immediately on your design.
  5. Click Done to save.

To rotate text:

  1. Tap on the text you’d like to rotate.
  2. With two fingers holding down on the text, rotate it in the direction you want.
  3. Guidelines will appear to show you if your text is centered.
  4. You can also drag the text around to reposition its placement with one finger. Make sure the text is selected by checking to see if the white box appears around it.

Editing Content


You can also easily add your own text on your design.

To edit text:

  1. Double tap the text you’d like to edit. This will prompt the keyboard to appear.
  2. Erase all the text in the field if you’d like and type in your new text.
  3. Tap Done to save.

Note that you can edit content in any text box in the same way you would text anywhere else on your iPhone.

  • To delete an entire string of content, tap the backspace button on the iPhone keyboard.
  • To delete a specific word, long tap the word to reveal iPhone’s default menu and then tap on Select. This will also open the text edit menu.

Adding Text


There are two different ways that you can add text to your design – add your own custom text or choose from our ready template texts.

To add custom text:

  1. Tap first on the + button found on the lower right side of the screen.
  2. Tap on the Text button to reveal the text selection.
  3. Click + Add some text of your own.
  4. A text box will appear on your design. Type in your desired text and tap Done to save.
  5. Edit the text’s look as necessary.

To add templated text:

  1. Tap first on the + button found on the lower right side of the screen.
  2. Tap on the Text button to reveal the text selection.
  3. Scroll through the selection of pre-designed text boxes and tap on what you’d like to add to your design. It will automatically appear on your screen.
  4. Double tap the text to edit and click Done to save the new text.
  5. Edit the text’s look as necessary.

Deleting Text


To delete an entire text box:

  1. Tap on the box to select it.
  2. Look for the Trash icon and tap to delete.

note: Canva for Work is accessible through desktop browsers only. You may still access designs created with your account but special editing features are not available like using uploaded fonts on your designs. To learn more about using the Canva iPhone app, check out our article on iPhone FAQs.
