Format charts

Charts make understanding information easier with simple visuals. You can customize the look to suit your design in just a few clicks.

note: Want to change your chart values? You can head over our article about editing chart values.

Change the style of your chart

Canva offers a variety of predefined chart types and styles that you can apply to your chart. They vary in column width, color styles (plain or gradient), and gradient intensity.

If you feel the need to adjust the look some more you can change the style of your chart without having to add in values again.

To change your chart’s style:

  1. Select the chart already in your design.
  2. Click on the Style button in the editor toolbar.
  3. Select a new look you’d like to apply to your chart from the object panel.
  4. The look will automatically update each time you select a new style.
  5. Click anywhere on the page to continue working on your design.

For more information on adding information or values to a chart, check out our Adding and removing charts article.

Change the color of your chart

Once you’re happy with the chart style, you can also change the chart’s color and font.

To change the color of a chart:

  1. Select the chart.
  2. Click on the color picker in the editor’s toolbar to choose a color.
  3. Click anywhere on the page to continue working on your design.

note: There is currently no option to change colors of individual bars in a chart.

Change the font and font size

To change the font in your chart:

  1. Select the chart.
  2. Click on the font or font size drop down menu on the editor toolbar.
  3. Select a new font or font size and click on it.

Resize your chart

There may be times when you might need to change the size of your chart – either bigger for everyone to see or smaller to fit more information on a page.

To change the size of a chart:

  1. Select the chart.
  2. Choose a corner, hold and drag to adjust it to the size you need. The element will adjust proportionally.

note: Have a particular feature in mind for formatting charts? Share your thoughts with us by filling out the Suggest a feature form.
