Layer photos

Layering photos over one another is a quick and easy technique to give your images a new perspective. Overlaying a second, semi-transparent image on top of another can create interesting designs, collages or effects.

There are two ways to layer photos, depending on which version of the editor you’re using. Head over to our article about Canva 1.0 and 2.0 to find out which version you’re using.

Layer photos (Canva 2.0)

  1. Place a one-photo grid by going to the Elements tab and then the Grids category.
  2. Click, hold and drag the first photo into the grid.
  3. Add the same type of grid on top of the first one.
  4. Click, hold and drag the second photo into the second grid.
  5. Click Transparency button from the toolbar.
  6. Adjust the transparency level by moving the slider to your left.
  7. Resize and edit the photo as needed.

Layer photos (Canva 1.0)

  1. Place a one-photo grid by going to the Elements tab and then the Grids folder.
