Submitting isolated photos

Isolated photos are photos with a ‘flat’ background, usually white. They’re difficult for Canva users to work with in the editor so we don’t allow them into the collection.

You’re still welcome to upload them – we’ll filter them out for you and there’ll be no penalty for this. They’ll appear in your private portfolio page as “Pending Cutout”.

We also occasionally go through the filtered cutouts, choosing subjects we need and having the images professionally etched so the background is removed. They then go into Canva, in your account, as a cutout. Cutouts sell far better than regular images in Canva on average, so this is a great boost to your earning potential.

You’re also welcome to cut out your own images too. You can submit them to use in PNG format. However, PNG doesn’t support embedded metadata so submit a JPG preview file with the metadata embedded and the same filename as the PNG.

Our system will match them and associate the metadata from the JPG with the PNG file in the database. We review submitted cutouts closely so be careful with the edges, especially hair, when etching them and ‘trim’ the transparency to the outermost pixel on all four sides.
